Julie's Class Notes

Happy Spring! Most students in class have finished or are finishing up their invention proto-

types. When we return from break all that will be needed are a few tweaks here and there, a few

tests and then we move on to the "Sell It" portion of their work. Students will create a video that

expresses the way their invention solves a sports problem or improves an existing sport, their

process and why their invention is important and necessary. They will utilize their research, dia-

grams and different versions of their prototypes to present their "commercial" to the judges of the

Invent It Challenge.

You may have heard talk of things called, "Julie Bucks". This is something we started in class

so kids could earn "bucks" for things at the end of the week, or contribute to a larger class fund

and save together for an ice cream party, a movie, a pizza party or all three! The kids brain-

stormed what they would like to buy at the "Julie Store" and how they would work together to

reach the goal of having a class party. Kids get Julie bucks for following our class agreement,

which include things like taking care of living things, looking and listening to someone who is talk-

ing and respecting materials. They are learning about managing their bucks to splurge, save or

share.
