Emily’s Class Notes
Our class has been exploring the changes that animals must make in order to survive the winter. We began by identifying several local animals that migrate each year and using maps, we traced their paths. We continued our study by researching animals that hibernate and comparing the similarities and differences between each animal’s hibernation including the duration, location, and whether or not they hibernate alone or in a group. In the coming weeks, we will be taking a trip to The South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center to learn more about some of the adaptations our local wildlife makes each year.
Last week, our class celebrated diversity in literature by participating in the African American Read In. Our class had the opportunity to explore and purchase books by and for people of color. Our school gathered during the afternoon to listen to several stories read by faculty members. If you have not already, stop by our classroom to see our beautiful new installation of the New York City skyline. Students worked with Perry, Jon and Sabra in the studio to create a scaled wooden model while adding their own creative touch. Great work!
