LUCY'S CLASS NOTES

We ended the year with significant accomplishments in the classroom and on stage! Everyone did a spectacular job in Hamlet. In addition to hard work and dedication, practicing bringing stories to life in the classroom also played a big part in how we performed on stage for Hamlet. We studied stories such as Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, and The Three Little Pigs, and created ways to tell the story through movement. We learned that the same way authors are precise with their word choice and author moves, performers also use different movements and facial expressions to portray a certain feeling or message. We will continue learning through movement as we explore the meaning and impact of advocacy. We will see how peaceful movement and advocacy can change the world.

Although most of December's focus was Shakespeare, we still kept up with our cultural research by working on a "Cultural Clothing Collage." We analyzed ways people dress around the world currently and throughout history. We look forward to continuing our cultural research as we prepare for our class cultural festival in May 2023!

Over the next month, we will begin our mystery book study, Chasing Vermeer by Blue Balliett.

We will explore different forms of art and pentominoes while solving the mystery of the missing painting!

We will need to find clues and piece them all together. We will also see how important persuasion is when convincing someone that a suspect is guilty.

As a reminder, we return to school tomorrow, January 3, 2023. Lastly, please let us know if you or anyone you know would like to volunteer their time to speak with us about a culture or cultural dance.

We are eager to plan another trip or visit to learn more about our cultures.
