Lucy’s Class Notes
The first month of school has been absolutely delightful, filled with joyful energy and many activities to help us bond as a community. From team-building games to group discussions, we've spent a lot of time getting to know one another and creating a positive atmosphere for learning. Each day has brought new opportunities to collaborate, share ideas, and build connections that will strengthen our classroom community throughout the year. We are all excited about the strong foundation we've established and look forward to what's ahead.
A highlight of this month was our visit to the Parrish Art Museum, where we had the incredible opportunity to work with environmental artist Alan Sonfist. Together, we helped kick off the first phase of his two-year project, which involves planting native wildflowers in a pattern reflecting the night sky's constellations. Our group worked on preparing the soil for the project, a crucial first step in bringing this artistic vision to life. We’ll return in the spring to plant the seeds and complete the next phase, and we are eager to see how the meadow will bloom and transform over time.
In reflecting on our Hayground campus and the unique interests of our community, each student decided on a type of book they would like to create that reflects these passions. These books are designed to engage and inspire our school community, and we’re thrilled to complete them and make them available within the next few weeks. The process of thinking about what truly matters to Hayground and translating that into creative projects has been a meaningful experience for everyone, and we can't wait to share the final results! — September 29, 2024
