Liz’s Senior Learner Class Notes
The first three days of school were as lovely as the weather. The senior learners enjoyed some beginning-of-the-year icebreakers, swam in the pool, created charts for their classroom, played telephone, arranged their binders, began our read-aloud, Lord of the Rings, learned about different kinds of words, and discussed our work together for the year. And, of course, we had fun and rekindled friendships.
On Tuesday, we're going to the Pollack-Krasner House to learn about the art and life of Jackson Pollack and Ruth Krasner. We're going to learn how Pollack came to his approach to painting, and we'll paint using his method on our trip. Back at school, we will paint large-scale canvases to explore the aesthetic benefits of this kind of painting for our classroom walls. We're going to the South Fork Natural History Museum and Nature Center on Wednesday. We will have a guided trip and learn all about the center.
I will introduce the apprenticeships on Monday, and the kids will select their apprenticeships on Tuesday. The kids will rate their choices 1st—3rd, and although they may not get their first choice, they will get their second or third. The kids will know by Thursday where they will be apprenticing. This is always an exciting time for the senior learners. We have a great group of kids this year! — September 14, 2024
