Marybeth and Elena's Class Notes
Who were the first people of this land? What was childhood like for people 500 years ago? Did children go to school? What did they play? Where did people live and how did they dress? What were their beliefs and values? Research teams answered these questions and more when they presented their learning to their classmates earlier this week. Like all good researchers, the children discovered that the more they learned, the more questions they had. If clothing was made of animal skins, how did they prepare them? What is tanning? Were there books? As we move deeper into February and into March, we will continue to pursue answers to their questions and layer in some experiential projects. Beginning next week we will start making cornhusk dolls, we will experiment with beading, and we will begin reading and illustrating a series of indigenous myths and stories.
Our guest reader series commenced this week with readings of I Promise, by Lebron James, The Colorsof Us by Karen Katz, and The Great Migration by Jacob Lawrence. Parent Jake Lear made a video of a read aloud about legendary musician, Muddy Waters, and treated us to a sample of his music. If you are unable to participate in “real time”, you are invited to do the same. Thank you to all who have participated - it’s been a special treat for the children. We look forward to welcoming more of you next week!
