Marybeth and Helene's Class Notes
After a lovely winter break and a few chilly snow days we're settling back into our Sea Change work in the classroom. We took a trip to Circle Beach in Sag Harbor where we've been observing the seasonal change and the children are painting pictures of what they see. We traversed the snow-covered landscape and looked out across the frozen bay before returning to the warmth of the classroom to sketch and record what we noticed. Stop into the classroom to see our bulletin board full of colorful captures.
We are in the process of putting the final touches on our Captain Kidd book! The children have finished writing their first person journal entries, sketching their illustrations on canvas and are now painting in the details. Arjun is helping us engineer the design of a large scrolling book shaped liked a pirate ship. We will celebrate the completion of the book with a special author's reception, the date is TBA.
As we move further into our exploration of Sea Change, the kids are considering what aspect of they would like to explore for their personal book projects. We brainstormed a list of possible subjects to choose from and everyone has cast their ballot for their top picks. Possible areas of study range from sea-monsters to climate change, from seafood to shipwrecks. Writers are anxiously awaiting their assignments and topics will be announced later this week!
