Marybeth and Helene's Class Notes

Earlier this week we launched Black History Month with a successful book fair and “read-in”. Classroom displays and shelves have been spruced up for February with an assortment of wonderful new books, by and about African Americans. We are presently in the process of planning a presentation for Soul Food Night. In keeping with our “Sea Change” theme, we read and discussed Robert San Souci's Sukey and the Mermaid, which is traditional folk tale that springs from the Afro-Caribbean island culture of South Carolina. The children will share the story with the community next Thursday evening.

As we put the finishing touches on our Captain Kidd Book, talk has moved towards planning for a celebration of its “release”. We invite you to join us in the classroom at 6:00 pm on March 7, 2018 for pizza, followed by a reading of the book. More details to follow.
