MARYBETH and RJ'S CLASS NOTES
What a busy couple of weeks it's been! Our field trip to Mashomack Preserve was a great success. After explor-
ing the nature center, we participated in activities and games that introduced us to the animals in the preserve,
the homes they live in, and how they prepare for winter. We sorted animals into categories based on their hiber-
nation and migration patterns, and discussed the subtle difference between an animal's habitat and its "house.
We then set off on a nature walk where our young explorers spotted turtles, frogs, and spiders, and collected a
multitude of acorns and beautiful leaves. The children are selecting one of the several animals that live in the
preserve, constructing their home out of blocks, sketching their house, and noting their observations and/or
questions in their journal.
In addition to reading about animals and their homes, we have been indulging in spooky Halloween books and
adding layers to our multimedia, autumn mural, which is now on display outside of our classroom. The collages
on the mural were inspired by picture book author and illustrator, Micha Archer. Be sure to check it out when
you next visit our room.
The children's homemade alphabet was recently completed and will serve as our word wall, where we will post
our ongoing "sight words" and vocabulary.
We recently enjoyed our first music session with musician and parent Jake Lear, and look forward to his return.
Happy Halloween to all!
