MARYBETH and RJ's CLASS NOTES
February may have come to a close but our celebration of “Black History Month” continues as we prepare for this coming Thursday’s Soul Food Night. Our class will celebrate blues musician Robert Johnson by singing his song, Malted Milk. We will perform our rendition along with Jake Lear and the children in Tohanash and Lora’s class. Be sure to join us for an evening of song, dance, poetry and great food!
On Friday we were visited by some small friends! Leading up to St. Patricks Day the children created Lep- rechaun houses to lure the mythical creatures into our classroom and catch them. We were outsmarted by the Leprechauns who made a visit but evaded our traps (though they did deliver chocolate coins, which brought smiles). The sense of joy and wonder experienced by the children was nothing short of magical.
We are in the final stages of the writing process as the children work to complete their books for Hampton Li- brary’s Budding Author’s program. They spent last week revising their work. At this stage of their development, revision simply means answering the question “Does my book make sense and sound the way I want?” The children’s stories have been typed and they will spend this week and next illustrating and adding their finishing touches.
Our study of homes continues. After browsing a stack of books, each child identified a home from around the world that they found interesting or beautiful in some way. They have each sketched their home and have begun researching their selection. We will resume this project once our Budding Author’s books are complete.
