Mbachi's Class Notes
In previous years the Bridgehampton Library has celebrated local elementary school students by having
a published author salute the students’ writing at an event called “Budding Authors.” Due to the pandemic, this
event didn’t take place last year. The library is bringing the same authors who were scheduled to come last year
via a live Zoom program. We are very excited. For this project, the students created characters and identified
and solidified their personality traits for their stories. They also created worlds for these characters to exist in,
bringing them to life to match the characters’ personalities. Students are now in the process of writing their sto-
ries, and will publish them to be on display at the Bridgehampton Library. This is going to be fun!
In addition, the students are finishing the illustrations for Amanda Gorman’s inauguration poem “The Hill
We Climb.” These beautiful illustrations will be used for a stop motion film while the children read the spoken
word. They are thrilled to resume their film work. At the moment, Ariel, Duke and Jules are working on a stop-
motion Lego film. Cecily, Opi, CJ, Suki, Ariana, and Novella are working on the stop motion Amanda Gorman
Poem. Orion, Amaree and Leo are working on a live-action film about eggs. Ezra and Ian are working on an
animation/Claymation film about a small town guy who is unaware of his superpowers.
A highlight of the week was the celebration of International Women’s Day. The students wrote about a
woman who has been influential in their life. Happy International Women’s Month!
We shall start new book groups next week. We are nearing the end of our read aloud “Prairie Lotus” by Lin-
da Sue Park. It's a great read that leads to meaningful and powerful conversations and the students are really en-
joying it.
