Tohanash & Lora’s Class Notes

As October comes to a close the children are finding the rhythm to our days and are enjoying the crisp fall air and abundant sunshine. We’ve enjoyed several exciting visits this month:

We were treated to a juggling show by retired circus juggler Michael, Theo’s family friend. Science teacher Hannah’s friends, “The Bug Chicks” hosted an all school gathering where we got to meet and touch some interesting insects. The Bridgehampton Fire Department came in full gear. These friends from our community who work to keep us safe gave us a tour of their Fire Truck!

We’ve been enjoying many read aloud books, songs and rhymes. Ask your child if they can recite “Five Little Pump- kins” or sing you ‘Stirring the Brew.” We read Maple and Rosemary by Alison James, a story of the lifelong friendship between a girl and a tree. This inspired a walk across campus to visit our Hayground Redwood Grove and do some tree hugging. We’ve also been enjoying several fun and spooky stories including; In a Dark, Dark, Wood, Room on the Broom, The Teeny Tiny Woman and Skeleton Hiccups.

Our investigations into natural materials have brought in flowers, sage and eucalyptus from the garden as well as seed pods and leaves from across our campus. The children have been inquisitive and creative with these materials, count- ing, weighing, organizing, dissecting, glueing and painting!

Gymnastics and music continue to be favorite activities. We have been learning about the guitar and the keyboard with Hudson music and singing joyfully together. If your child asks you to play Yellow Submarine or The Lion Sleeps Tonight, this may be the reason! We hope everyone has a fun and not too spooky Halloween! We are already looking forward to November’s adventures!
