Tohanash and Lora’s Class Notes
Spring has sprung! We started the month with Soul Food Night, lifting our voices to “This Little Light of Mine” and proudly displaying our Faith Ringold inspired mural. We enjoyed a delicious dinner supplied by our families and hit the dance floor.
We participated in the Parrish Art Museum Student Show, working with Perry to create ceramic pieces that adorned the all-school collaborative sculpture. We have added art with Perry to our weekly schedule this spring and have been exploring the medium of clay.
St. Patrick’s Day was very exciting—we read “How to Catch a Leprechaun” by Adam Wallace and had a visit from a tricky leprechaun named Lenny. He had some fun in our classroom and left green footprints everywhere! Although we didn’t catch him in any of our elaborate tape and cardboard traps, he was nice enough to leave us a few gold coins!
We’ve been busy mixing up batches of play dough and were excited to make some to share with parents on curriculum night. We continue to work thoughtfully and diligently creating drawings and stories that we share in Friendship Books for each of our classmates.
Eric Carle’s “The Tiny Seed” and “Up In the Garden Down in the Dirt” by Kate Messner have been popular at storytime. We’re learning a new poem, “Worm, Worm” an ode to one of our favorite creatures. Rainy days have given us the opportunity to take “worm walks” across campus. Luckily, garden teacher Marc Antonio is an expert on worm habitats and he and the chickens have helped point us in the right direction on our adventures!
