AMY'S CLASS NOTES

Sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and gourds, oh my! Amy's class was in interactive bliss with a field trip to Eider's farm and with this week's pumpkin investigations. Eider invited us to dig, dig, dig and wiggle, wiggle to get those sweet potatoes out of the ground. We continued the flora studies this week and turned our attention to the many different kinds of pumpkins that we see out in the gardens this time of year. Our class dissected five pumpkins. We weighed, measured, and counted each seed. Interestingly, each pumpkin's seed was slightly different than the seeds of each of the other pumpkins. The children decided that taste was necessary for a thorough investigation, so we headed to the kitchen, added salt, olive oil, and some even added soy sauce before popping them into the oven. The seeds were delicious!

Our investigation ended by treating the chickens to their own "pumpkin pie."

Reading logs are due each Monday. Children should be reading with a grownup 4-5 times per week.
