LUCY'S CLASS NOTES
We are closing this month radiating pride to have displayed our work in a museum within the first two months of school! We stayed committed to our goal and worked hard throughout the short timeframe to display four components in the student exhibit. We are now taking on the responsibility to look further into whaling and maritime history to see the complete picture and all perspectives. We want to connect with people from the Shinnecock community to learn their narratives and views on this topic.
We had the incredible experience of walking 110 feet up to the top of the Montauk Lighthouse. The exciting experience did not stop there as we continued to explore the rest of the museum. We interacted with a virtual aquarium, analyzed artifacts and historical documents, and learned about how erosion is impacting the lighthouse. We are excited to continue our museum exploration as we venture into museums focused on natural history!
A few adventurous friends from the group unintentionally found a wooden box with hidden treasures deep in the Tonka Town sandbox! We have been investigating this discovery to understand if it is a time capsule or treasure box, and we are synthesizing who this discovery belonged to. It has been exciting to develop a proposed narrative of who this could belong to.
As a reminder, we have the Halloween Celebration on October 31, 2023. We will go to local museums on November 7 and 8, 2023, and then a big trip to the city on November 13! A lot to look forward to.
