Erin and Kevin's Class Notes
March arrived, living up to its reputation as a lion. Fortunately we are having some lamblike days, too, and can feel spring around the corner. In preparation for Soul Food Night, we studied the poem Snail, by Langston Hughes. We created a playful collage to go along with the poem, which you can find in the Gathering Space. While we were researching poems, songs and artworks by African American artists, we discovered the book and song “A-Tisket, a-Tasket by Ella Fitzgerald. We hope to perfect this and sing it to you all sometime in the spring, and perform the Snail poem again.
We are beginning work on our book about houses. We have the words down, now we will be taking photos for it. Your children will be creating setups for their photos, so we may be asking you for help finding any materials they will need.
You may have noticed the many large boxes in our room the last few weeks. Little by little, we have been coating the boxes with glue and strips of ram board, to make them more sturdy. We will decorate them with color, finish them off with Mod Podge, and have strong, large blocks to build with. We have been getting help from Jon Snow, who will be enlisting the help of some of the older students.
