Julie and Jackie’s Class
Our class is busy, busy, busy. We are proud to have finished the projects for our Upcycled Design Challenge, and look forward to donating them to the youngest students at Hayground—if we can part with them. The kids were inspired after visiting the Watermill Center and seeing the art of Lucien Shapiro, who used objects found while beach combing on Shinnecock beaches.
We have identified ourselves as MANTIS; Materials Are Not Trash Innovation Society. To share our endeavor of using “trash” in meaningful ways, the kids have designed logos for MANTIS, and we are hoping to make t-shirts with the design we agree on. The other designs are so wonderful, that we will use all of them as art for our future series of comics about MANTIS and the Fixie Pixies.
We have enjoyed this week getting to know the Shakespeare directors and learn the story of The Tempest. The students have identified the top five parts they would like to play, and will find out who they will be playing on Friday.
Lastly we are devoting this afternoon to the Shakespeare Scramble, when students choose a line of text to illuminate on a poster. We hope you can make it to tonight’s parent evening with Shakespeare directors, to find out how you can be involved in the production.
