Tohanash and Lora’s Class Notes
April is here! We started out the month with the solar eclipse. It was so special to share that moment as a community!
This month has also brought a new activity for our class—reading buddies with Amy's group (ages 7-9). Once a week we join the big kids in the gathering space and they read books to our little ones. It's wonderful to see the connections being made across ages.
Speaking of books, our class book that the children have titled, "The School Book" has been published and will be available for viewing at the Hampton Library starting this Friday. We encourage families to visit
the library and check out the student publications. It's so exciting to see our work out in the world! Copies of the book will be made and shared with families soon.
We have a new addition to our class - "Ahlalu" a life sized stuffed beluga whale that the children painted and stuffed as a group. We are hoping that a baby Orca may be joining our class soon as well. Details to follow...
In other exciting news our mud kitchen at the clay pit has been spiffed up and we will be working with Julie's class to further beautify this creative area in our outdoor space. So far the reviews have all been positive. Thank you to all the families that came out to Helping Hands day. It's a great way to build community!
In addition to all this, our days have been full of mixing colors, painting, building with blocks, telling stories, reading books and making believe. Some favorite read aloud books recently are: Let's Make Rabbits by Leo Lionni, Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, Storm Boy by Paul Owen Lewis, Blueberries for Sal by Robert McClosky, I Can Open it for Y ou by Shinsuke Yoshitake. We also had a special guest reader in—Marcelle! She read Fortunately by Remy Charlip and There is a Flower at the Tip of My Nose Smelling Me by Alice Walker. We welcome all family members that would like to be our guest readers!
